Considering two pastry chef portraits — one by the painter Chaim Soutine and the other by the photographer August Sander — we’re surprised by apparently different outcomes, bringing to light the unexpected “truth” of Soutine’s expressionistic portrait, and then on the other hand, what’s “expressed” through Sander’s objectivist photograph.
